The Iron-Age (Nidderdale) Project

The Iron-Age (Nidderdale) Project is funded by a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £40,000 to explore the amazing (and up ’til now, often hidden) remains of iron workings in this glorious dale.

Deep in the Dale, there are a few rough fields which are full of enough archaeology to keep even the most ardent archaeologist happy for decades.  Here, we spend many a happy day, whatever the weather, surrounded by the most beautiful countryside.

The site is on private land with no public access and plenty of marauding cattle but this website is your chance to have a taste of what digging for archaeology is really like.

Join us as we explore a Bronze Age burial mound, Iron Age metal workings, medieval monks’ masterpieces, 17th century buildings and any number of mysteries.

And quite a lot of mud.
